I can understand Summer of 69. It's one of my favourite songs. But what is 2010 Summer? Well, like Bryan Adams himself sings it, the days from now to then could well be "The Best Days of My Life".
Just to be a little clearer, I am going to be a part of the batch of Executive MBA students at Columbia Business School, New York, that will gradute in the Summer of 2010 (August, to be precise).
It's been close to a week since I got that call from the Associate Director of Admissions at Columbia and I still cannot believe that I actually made it. Especially since it has taken me 15 years to get to this point.
Right now, it is all a little overwhelming. I have received official communication from the school and they have already opened up a to-do list on their admitted website which requires a few hundred man hours of effort. I already have course material for the prep classes, case-studies and assigments for the residence week that begins January 12, 2009 and a whole bunch of forms to fill (sometimes it makes me think, so what if it is all online?).
But even as I go through this journey of the next 20 months, managing classes, homework, a full-time job and family, I will try to come back here and write what I am feeling and how it is all going. May be I will start with the story of those 15 years and how I got here in the first place.
I am beginning to wonder if I should call this time, "The Most Challenging Days of My Life".
